Bluffview

The Bluffview neighborhood of Dallas is located between Midway and Inwood to the east and west, Lover’s Lane to the south and Northwest Highway to the north. This area is complimented by the Briarwood neighborhood which is located in the south east corner of this area. Bluffview features winding streets and oversized lots, while Briarwood has a more traditional street grid with more densely placed homes. The neighborhood is served by the Dallas ISD. Upscale retail shopping is available just blocks away at the Inwood Village shopping center. Love Field airport is a 5 minute drive from Bluffview.

A variety of home styles still exist in Bluffview, although new development is rapidly replacing the original homes. Smaller homes under 2000 sqft and lots for development can be found for just under $400,000. New construction and estate homes, which typically start around 5000sqft, are readily available with prices ranging from $1M to $5M.

The neighborhood was originally developed in the 1920s by Stephenson and Drane, the same developers how had created Greenway Parks. The 215 acres of land, which was formerly a diary farm, was purchased for less than $60,000. The name is derived from the 60-foot bluff of Austin Chalk seen in Bachman Creek which runs through the neighborhood. Bluffview is one of the few areas in Dallas that feature hilly terrain. The original developers saw this and the abundance of mature trees as a selling feature and designed the neighborhood with winding streets and irregular lot shapes in order to preserve the trees and terrain. Bluffview was annexed into the city of Dallas in 1943.
