Downtown
Downtown Dallas, bounded to the north by Woodall Rogers Freeway, to the west by I-35, to the south by I-30, and to the east by the northern terminus of I-45 & the southern terminus of I-75, has been known as being the center of Dallas’ business district. It is quickly being transitioned into a hot spot for residences, employment, city, state, & federal governments, and cultural venues alike.
Residential Downtown Dallas offers many great amenities that an urban lifestyle affords. Proximity to work, play and home is a great advantage for Downtown residents. Downtown is the largest employment center in North Texas with a workforce of over 125,000 people. Major Downtown employers include SBC, The City of Dallas, Bank of America, TXU, Blockbuster, Neiman Marcus, Belo, and AT&T (moving very soon to Downtown from San Antonio, Texas).
Downtown is also home to the Government District. Located in the southern sector of Downtown, the district is home to many government buildings including Dallas City Hall, United States Bankruptcy & United States Attorney Offices, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, which exercises jurisdiction over 100 west and north Texas counties.
Downtown also plays host to many of Dallas’ cultural venues and events. Popular attractions include the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas World Aquarium, the Farmers Market, one of the countries largest open-air markets, the Dallas Museum of Art, West End Historic District, and many more. Events held Downtown include many annual parades, the Taste of Dallas, as well as a revolving event schedule from local concert sites, comedy halls, museums and churches.
