Garland
In 1850 settlers arrived in the Peters Colony but a community was not created until 1874. A rivalry formed between two towns, Duck Creek and Embree. There was a dispute over which town should have the local post office, the post office was moved between the two towns in 1887. The new location was named after Attorney General Augustus Hill Garland. Duck Creek and Embree were combined to form the city of Garland, and in 1891 the new city was incorporated. By 1904, the population of the town was 819 people.
