Hollywood Heights & Santa Monica
The Hollywood/Santa Monica Conservation District, also known as Hollywood Heights, was acquired in the 1920's by J.B. Salmon to subdivide and improve the former Dairy Farm land. J.B. Salmon is also known as the developer for Kessler Park in Oak Cliff. His idea was to allow developers to build in diverse styles as long as they stayed within the deed restrictions.
With this idea, we now have an eclectic collection of home styles including the predominant Tudor, Spanish and French Eclectic, Minimal Traditional, Craftsman, Monterrey, and two rare examples of the flatroofed Pueblo Revival style. In 1989, the neighborhood association succeeded in having Hollywood/Santa Monica declared a Conservation District. This neighborhood may well be the largest collection of stone-embellished Tudor cottages in the nation. Hollywood/Santa Monica is located between the Lakewood Country Club and the Tennison Golf course and is highlighted with Lindsley Park.
Hollywood /Santa Monica enjoys a high community involvement. There are several events put on by the neighborhood association each year, including the Easter Parade, the Halloween Spooktacular, the annual Christmas Party and the highly publicized Home Tour whose proceeds go to J.L. Long Middle School. You will always see people outside walking their dogs, playing with their kids, or socializing with their neighbors. This community has quick access to good schools, White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum.
