Richardson
Richardson is a suburb immediately north of Dallas and south of Plano. The area is roughly located north of the LBJ-635 Loop, south of Renner Road, East of the North Dallas Tollway and west, past Central Expressway, to Jupiter Road. The area is widely diverse racially, economically, and spiritually. You will find virtually every walk of life in Richardson.
The city of Richardson was chartered in 1873 on land once the home of Comanche and Caddo Native America tribes. In the 1950s, two major turning point occurred which have shaped Richardson into the thriving city it is today: US-75 (Central Expressway) was opened and Collin Radio opened ushering in a technology emphasis which still exists in Richardson. Soon, Texas Instruments was formed and grew into one of the Dallas area’s largest employers. This was later followed by telecom giants Nortel and Ericsson who along with many other smaller telecom companies, created what is now known as “Telecom Corridor” or the “Silicon Prairie”. The city is served by the respected Richardson ISD, except for a small portion in the north which is served by the Plano ISD. Richardson is also home to the University of Texas at Dallas, a branch of the UT system. Although still young, it is a dynamic research facility.
Homes in Richardson are predominantly from the 1950 through 1975 era, as this was the city’s fastest time of growth. Homes range from small 2-bedroom starter homes for just under $100,000 to more exclusive neighborhoods at premium prices. New construction is also found in Richardson with middle class new construction homes, mostly on the east side of Central Expressway. Condos and townhomes are readily available along the Preston Road corridor between Preston and the Tollway.
