University Meadows

University Meadows is a well-established, traditional neighborhood consisting of 508 homes east of North Central Expressway. Its boundaries stretch from the Dart Rail north to Lovers Lane, between Skillman and east to Abrams. University Meadows is a great neighborhood close to an abundance of shopping, White Rock Lake, and has convenient access to both 75 and Northwest Highway to make travel to work easier.

Once a cotton field, the neighborhood began in the early 1960s and continued to develop into the early 1970s. There are residents of University Meadows who are the original owners of their homes and have watched the neighborhood grow. They can tell stories of both its stability as well as its transformation. Some residents who grew up as children in the neighborhood have come back to make University Meadows home for their children. University Meadows is also experiencing a transition with many young couples and young families moving into the neighborhood.

University Meadows also boasts a strong volunteer neighborhood association as seen at the annual Memorial Day parade and block party. Neighbors are kept informed of community business through quarterly neighborhood association meetings as well as the UMNA newsletter. New neighbors are personally greeted with a welcome package of local interests and businesses. Although serious crime is rare in the neighborhood, UMNA’s crime watch unit provides safety tips as well as a weekly update via e-mail or voice mail of any crimes in the neighborhood, as well as other neighborhood information.
